To listen to Your Nature is to be a fly on the wall in a painter’s studio, the air thick with the scent of oil paints, turpentine, and a certain artistic abandon.

The painter works ambidextrously, slapping on layer after layer of paint, his work deeply stratified. The foundational guitar notes blend and transform with the addition of the staccato percussion. Repetition of lyrics and melodies emphasize each color; the paintbrush strokes red, red, and red again until the veracity of the hue is fully realized.

The bass guitar provides sudden splashes of dark purple that hit the canvas and splatter in lingering notes across a background of yellow. Suddenly, the painter steps back, heaves a sigh of contentment, and allows some white to show through: the steady chords that have been there all along, alone in the silence again.

Put on a smock, don a beret, and come join the artsfest; be at T.T. the Bear’s on Saturday, July 17th at 9 pm to watch Your Nature at work.
