Delorean gives permission to live like bohemian kings. This Barcelona-based group of Basque Country transplants makes high-energy tracks that beg for revelry. On their latest album Subiza, named after the town in northern Spain where it was recorded, Delorean blissfully dismantles boring sensory faculties as splintered micro-beats cozy into swelling melodies. The soaring reverb of their layered background vocals connects angular shards of keyboard and synth. Each song expands into a neon mosaic, intricate yet cohesive.

“Stay Close” is doused in tropical splendor. It surges with a daredevil attitude that’s also somehow warm and encouraging, an adventure track with arms outstretched, splayed into infinity. Similar in spirit, “Simple Graces” undoes itself about halfway through to bare its sparkling skeleton. First the vocals float in an a cappella haze. A new layer of intermittent beats prolongs the suspense until finally, the sound crowd reunites to shuffle and shimmy to an incandescent glory. Indulge in Delorean this Monday, July 12 at Great Scott.
