Jenny Tuite, lead singer of Boston’s The Dirty Dishes, beguiles like a heroine in a horror film who can’t be trusted. Throughout the foursome’s latest EP In the Clouds, Tuite’s light voice oozes slowly over a tangle of unremitting drum stabs and feedback-heavy guitar. Every eerie syllable stretches out and elongates until it seeps in amongst the sharp tempo changes below her. On “Stolen Apples,” Tuite slides along unsettling melodies and tiptoes between unfinished half-steps, leaving the air hanging and haunted. Her coy delivery lingers as a potential escape from the encroaching electronic storm, but not for long. The song ends with a series of chanted demands and a clash of harsh instrumentals, a sinister finale to all that suspense. Get on Dirty Dishes’ good side at PA’s Lounge, Sunday, July 8 at 8 p.m.
