Blending an array of acoustic instruments, Bearcubes evoke the story of a dark-haired dreamer. Plump, rosy, and winsome, she’s not entirely elegant but she’s happy in her own right, and endearing to be sure.

As she anticipates her evening ahead, the pulsating piano of “Blue Egg Blues” encourages the strings in an effortless mélange of plucks and swells. Sliding one last pin in her hair, she sets out for a soiree by the sea, a night adorned with paper lanterns and dance cards to fill.

By “The New Moon in the Morning,” all formalities have been shed. The guests, full and content, drift outside into the wet grasses to sway in pairs. Trumpet and oboe solos warm their bare feet, as they swing along with the tempo and the crowd. A gentle hi-hat dresses up the occasion, although at this point in the night, the bowties have been discarded, and a few fur stoles tossed onto chair backs.

Suspenders bared, curls undone, Bearcubes satisfies with a nostalgia for something yet to happen and a familiarity for someone we hardly know at all. Come enjoy at TT’s, Tuesday, July 6 at 9 p.m.
