There’s something more philosophical and affecting about Beach Fossils’ sound than your average summer beat. While the distant reverberations paint a distorted image in matte, sun-bleached pastels, the easy-going melodies and vocal drones are penetratingly sentimental. Like watching forgotten vacation videos in slow motion, listening to the Beach Fossils evokes wistfulness for naively cloudless days. Hazy vocals are dusted with jangles of guitar and unassuming percussion to create a weightless texture-perfect for summer; however, the poignant harmonies beg for something more. Deceivingly lighthearted, the Beach Fossils’ dissonantly tinged hums quietly recall the inevitable loss of innocence and youth. To reminisce on what these warm months may have once meant to you, come check out Beach Fossils at the Middle East Upstairs on Friday, June 18.
