Featuring a protagonist in the form of a scratchy, bluesy voice, Chicago’s Maps and Atlases is a fable set in an intricate, indie-pop landscape.  Always on the move, the protagonist begins at dawn on a European cobblestone street in “Solid Ground.”  From there, the journey continues on a bumping bicycle ride down angular paths of a shifting, surreal landscape.  The sun shines bright and flowers bloom into birds, but questionable creatures and circumstances lurk in the shadows awaiting those with their heads too far in the clouds.  Cohesive guitar plucking and the unique rhythms of a cowbell and wood block act as supporting characters through this textured tale.  Experience the rest of the story by pre-ordering Maps & Atlases’ latest LP, Perch Patchwork, and see a live rendition at Paradise on Thursday.
