Surfer Blood, Turbo Fruits, and Doomstar!
Tuesday, March 2 at Great Scott

There is something oddly cinematic about Doomstar!, something you wouldn’t expect from a garage rock band. With dramatic drum flourishes set against string-scratching guitars, the opening for “Rainbow Bloodsucker” off the same-titled album would have made a perfect theme song for some psychedelic twisted-out James Bond flick. Despite being distant and fuzzed out almost to oblivion, the vocal melody maintains a tight hold over the racing beats and the relentless guitars.
Another standout track, “You Can Hide” ends with a repeated falsetto hook over increasingly anxious drums. It dances the line between anthem and horror movie – is it time to celebrate or time to start running?
Doomstar!, one of this week’s Foundwaves Weekly Picks, answers the question at Great Scott on Tuesday, March 2. They are playing first so get there early so you don’t miss their set.
