In “Hollywood” Marina takes on the American Dream. Dancing around her opponent, she enunciates each word with a jab to the ribs. No adversary is safe. Her booming vocals strike to the nosebleed seats. Even the rounded vowels of her Welsh-tinted accent surprise with uppercuts of stinging lyrics. Unfazed by the beats popping from far corners, Marina drops her voice to skip around the ring in a victorious parade.
On her latest single, Marina’s words “Oh No!” echo from all corners of the room. A throbbing bass rumbles below her. “I know exactly what I want and who I want to be!” she feints. “I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine!” rebounds the reply with equal punch. The only match for Marina is Marina herself.
