With waves of sound and tall tall grass, The Wandas track the sprawl of a rural landscape. In a room full of Claude Monets and John Constables, the sun shines, the colors scream.
The Wandas’ horns and pop-steady guitar in “The Lady” combine to form a wealthy field of sound, a vast Italian vineyard. Keith McEachern’s voice is round – rich in color, those grape-red vocals. And, in keeping true to the fruit, McEachern’s voice preserves a tartness, wrapped around a seeded, pounding drum.
In “Please Come Home” each sustained piano chord rains upon the boundless fields of wine-to-be as McEachern asks, “Don’t it start to bring you down?” The band’s percussion sweeps as droplets of voice graze the tips of The Wandas’ leafy guitar.
Pick some, eat some, make some wine when The Wandas play the Middle East Upstairs on Saturday, July 3.
