In spite of the hypnotic feelings that their soft and padded downtempo sounds induce, Magic Magic’s music is much more than a passive listening experience. Their strange echoes and reverb, sprinkled with a healthy dose of jingles and twang, belong in the unpredictable, semi-conscious state of a lingering dream. It is the experience of emerging from a buzzing lagoon surrounded by shadows and creeping figures, as the dawn filters in through the bedroom window. Occasionally, a rhythmic trotting, created via plucky strings and the efforts of multiple (though never overbearing) drummers, directs listeners to more vibrant, upbeat places, but without ever losing that mirage-like intrigue.
